Home Sweet Home

So, it's been a long time since I last did a blog post. It has been a busy busy last 2 months to say the least. Oh how I have missed you all. For those who don't know, I bought a house! I am now a proud homeowner, and I couldn't be more excited. I still can't believe this is my house sometimes. I love it though, and couldn't be happier. You know what that means....it's PROJECT TIME! I am sooooooo excited to decorate, and put my personal touch on it. It's the biggest piece of canvas I've ever had! So stay tuned. Life is about to become an adventure, and that means so is this blog. I'm almost scared at the possibilities.

So, I didn't come to just to tell you about my new purchase. I actually did a project through all of this. I finally designed my new end table for the living room. I thought about this project long and hard. I wanted something that complimented the coffee table, but not match it too much. I also only wanted one table instead of two. Two is so normal. Everyone is doing it. My coffee table is square with a puzzle design.

After much thought and several designs, I decided that I wanted the end table to be round. Round, but with some sort of square/straight edge detail. Something that brought out the coffee table. So, on one of my many trips to Target (One of my most favorite stores ever) I saw a round table that I thought would be a good base.

Honestly it was exactly what I was looking for. Took me a while to commit to it though because it was $75, and I didn't like paying that much for something that I was going to change. However, I've learned when I design to go for what I want. Sometimes when I try to cut corners and change the design, I end up liking it for a little while and then changing it at some point when I see something I like better. So, in my case it makes sense to just do it right the first time. Now, the only problem with the table was that the top wasn't big enough. So, I created a bigger table top.

I used foam board and paper mache to make a hard sturdy surface. You should have seen me in Michaels trying to see if I could break the board. I had to make sure it was thick enough and wouldn't bend or break. I definitely made sure. I covered the top with with newspaper, but once the glue mixture touched the paper it wrinkled. I ended up using balsa wood to cover the top instead. I also used the balsa to wrap around the edges. Then I painted the top, in the same kind of design as the coffee table. Here is the finished product.

I'm really pleased with the way this project turned out. Only thing is now I'm afraid to put anything on it for fear of ruining it. Definitely need to invest in some coasters. Until the next time. It's on to the next project, which I'm not looking forward to. Painting furniture. I hate painting furniture. Furniture and walls. Oh Joy!
